A brief information bit about Brian Derek
A professional bassist/composer; preferred style of music is jazz. My writing reflects the broad range of jazz and orchestral stylings that peak my interest.Including Bebop, Post bop, Brasilian, Cuban,World Fusion etc. I utilize fretless and fretted fender basses,bass synth,percussion,keyboards,guitar,and computer programming in my compositions.
Performed with Mike Stern,The Brubeck Bros.,Jay McShann,Peter Erskine,Pat Metheny,Joe Beck,Ali Ryerson,the 5th Dimension,Neil Sedaka,etc.,and have been involved with many independent recording and performance projects. Recorded original music for quartet and have a DVD available of the performance in 2007. CD`s released independently: Cosmic Truth (1999); Clouds of Oort (2000); Jah Zambango (2000); The Sound of Emotion (2001); Absolute Music (2002). TSome of these recordings (available at www.cdbaby.com/brianderek are very diverse stylistically , covering jazz,worldfusion, latin, funk and orchestral, as well as ECM-ish and bebop;in so many words,i`ve always tried to be as versatile a bass player and composer as possible, while making sure those styles are done with the utmost integrity! No matter what the gig, I always come to PLAY!I also teach privately;harmony,theory,fretless bass technique,etc.
